Now that my life is neatly(ish) packed into 23 boxes of varying sizes and weights, I find that I have missed the cutoff time for the pickup I wanted to schedule. It would have all fallen into place so beautifully... and so uncharacteristically. Perhaps it's just as well; now I have to juggle rides and flight changes, but at least I don't have to reconsider my impression of the way the universe works.

Posted by dianna at July 10, 2007 01:48 AMWait, are you *actually* moving to Portland? All this time I've kind of been thinking of it like a daydream you were having. I knew you were going but I didn't really believe you were going, if you see what I mean.
Look, it's going to take me a few days to wrap my head around this, so you might want to put things off a little longer. You know, as a courtesy.
Posted by: didofoot at July 10, 2007 07:27 AMWow, 23 boxes? You have a lot more life than I did when I moved.
Posted by: MoltenBoron at July 10, 2007 11:32 AMKris, I swear I put that exact question in the FAQ not two weeks ago. Although now that I think about it, it wasn't really frequently-asked by anyone but me until you asked, so thanks.
Until I got home from work today and found my room no longer full of boxes, I was reasonably convinced that it was all an elaborate hallucination. But I'm starting to believe it now.
Zach, I lied. It's actually 24 boxes, as I realized when I did a tally this morning -- I had 2 box #16s. Anyway, I keep telling people I own a lot of books. When are they going to believe me?
Posted by: Dianna at July 10, 2007 10:00 PMIt occurs to me now that you might not necessarily have more life than I, but rather more foresight than I when it comes to packaging the life that you have. Or at least, enough foresight not to pack all of your books into one giant box that is too heavy for you to lift.
Posted by: MoltenBoron at July 10, 2007 10:08 PMOh, yes. I still have an enormous box that I once thought would hold half of my books in one convenient package, but I've come to my senses and converted it into a box for lightweight things like t-shirts and pith helmets.
Yes, I am moving with the enormous pith helmet that Katie gave me as a joke. I've found that it makes a good protective case for my fedora, and it's a nice conversation starter. "So... why do you have a pith helmet?" "Well, it's more convenient than a hatbox."
Posted by: Dianna at July 10, 2007 11:55 PMI like that you have a pithy response about your pith helmet.
