Try this at home: instant candidate character analysis via the web.
First, go to www.georgewbush.com. Check out the links on the front page for "John Kerry: the raw deal", the Kerry Gas Tax Calculator, John Kerry's Flip-flop Olympics, and the Kerry Media Center.
Next, go to www.johnkerry.com. Find a mention of George Bush, even a tiny one, somewhere on the front page. No, no, keep looking. It's got to be there somewhere, right? Kerry has to be taking the opportunity to get in some dirty jabs before the polls close.... but he's not?
Now that's class.
Posted by dianna at November 2, 2004 02:11 PMThree hours. Three hours. Three hours until the earliest results come in from the East Coast. God, I'm a wreck.
Two hours and forty-seven minutes now.
Posted by: Dianna at November 2, 2004 02:19 PMIt may not be class. It is also a tactic to not acknowledge your competitor. This is typically used in local or congressional elections when you are running against a competitor that has less money and no name recognition.
Posted by: rick at November 2, 2004 02:30 PMWell, yes. I don't really think Kerry can claim he's running against a competitor with less money and no name recognition, though. :p
Posted by: Dianna at November 2, 2004 02:37 PMI hate to burst your bubble, Dianna, but they won't release our results on the East Coast until your polls close on the West Coast. This sucks for you, but it sucks even more for me. I have to be a nervous wreck until 11pm my time! jacked up, man. One more reason for me to miss being on the west coast. Earlier gratification.
Posted by: Jolie at November 2, 2004 03:46 PMwhen do our polls close? 7 or 8? this means the difference between me going to jujitsu or not. oh, let's be honest, i'm not going to jujitsu either way, but i'd still like to know. no, really i need to know. i'm having trouble distinguishing whether i'm really this nervous about the results, or if it's a combination of the election and my paper and the million things that are due next week. i could really use a free back massage right now. can someone pray for me? i'm a little busy right now.
Posted by: erica at November 2, 2004 03:58 PMYour polls close at 8pm. Well, frankly, I don't know when YOUR polls close - it goes district by district. But the last polls in CA close at 8pm PST.
I say you should go to jujitsu. It will help to be around badass women with good energy. Plus it might help if you fuck some shit up with ninja kicks and throws and whatnot. Stress relief is good. I do not have jujitsu in my life, so I will just be drinking a lot. Like mother, like daughter.
Posted by: Jolie at November 2, 2004 04:03 PMDrinking a lot sounds good. I'll be eating pizza and cringing with my upstairs roommates. Fortunately for me they're all liberals, so I'll have plenty of shoulders to cry on if I need it.
Actually, what I read was that the US networks agreed not to call any state as won by either candidate until the polls closed for that state only. No calling Kentucky until Kentucky polls are closed. Is this not-calling-any-states-until-everyone's-closed in addition to that?
Posted by: Dianna at November 2, 2004 04:09 PMAaaah! Aaaah! First poll results are in at bbconline (and probably everywhere else also)! Bush is taking Indiana and Kentucky.
Our one resident office conservative came to California from India via Kentucky, and he's thrilled. Insufferable lout!
Oooh, Kerry took Vermont. I'm so shocked?
Posted by: Dianna at November 2, 2004 04:14 PMJust got back from a full, and fulfilling day, of getting out the vote in Northwestern Philadelphia. I'm exhausted (couldn't sleep last night) and my stomach is full of butterflies. But the exit polls (if you choose to believe them) look good for our side... I have not stopped grinning since hearing the first reports.
We ran into a few nasty GOPers, who called us "tree hugging bitches" and mouthed "fuck you people" from their giant gas-guzzling SUVs. Nothing but class from Shrub or his supporters, I guess.
